Ecology Commission

Secular Franciscans are called to relate to all creatures – both animate and inanimate – as brothers and sisters, because all creation bears the imprint of the Most High. Secular Franciscans are grateful for what they have received and consciously try to be good stewards. They take a firm position against consumerism and against every ideology or practice which exploits the human person or creation.

The mission of the Ecology Commission is to study, animate, guide and coordinate the local fraternity’s efforts at caring for creation. Its efforts focus on three areas: 1) direct, hands-on initiatives that benefit the environment, 2) advocacy and support of efforts that put an end to pollution and the degradation of nature, and those that create a positive natural environment, and 3) the formation in the fraternity of a Franciscan ecological consciousness.
