Work Commission Secular Franciscans esteem work both as a gift and as a sharing in the creation, redemption and service of the human community. For Secular Franciscans daily work is not only their means of livelihood, but an opportunity to serve God and neighbor, as well as a way to develop one’s own personality. The mission of the Work Commission is to study, animate, guide and coordinate the local fraternity’s efforts to witness to their faith and carry their Franciscan values into the workplace and marketplace. Its efforts focus on three areas: 1) direct assistance to the unemployed, 2) advocacy and support of initiatives that support every person’s right to work and workers’ rights, and 3) engaging the local fraternity in a process of integrating real life and gospel values in a spirituality that is truly Franciscan and truly secular.
